Diagnostic and Troubleshooting Skills
Just like a detective, Norris' skill in diagnosing and solving a problem are one part technical knowledge, one part intuition. Norris has the cumulative skills and experience to qualify for a Ph.D. if there was such a thing. The nickname "Sherlock" will have to do for now.
Norris is also an innovator in methods, pioneering the use of digital test equipment for sensor testing. He created his own procedures to eliminate time-wasting guesswork often involved in "factory" or book diagnostics. He was one of the first technicians in Colorado to wear protective latex gloves on the job. Norris is also a trainer of 4 apprentices.
Who recognizes these skills?
First of all, his clients. They have followed and trusted him for decades, and have built his reputation for honesty and insight by giving hundreds of referrals. Second, the AAA Colorado chose Norris for a live TV broadcast on the morning news (October 2000) to talk about and demonstrate maintenance. He also has hundreds of hours of AM radio air time talking car tech and answering questions about cars.
